Changes to default sex options in Cliniko
We've made changes to our sex and gender identity fields due to feedback and to keep our options up to date with current terminology.
While we believe it’s important to support the LGBTQIA+ community all year round, we definitely love Pride Month! This is an appreciation post for the LGBTQIA+ community and our diverse team at Cliniko.

Pride Month 2023 is here! To everyone from the LGBTQIA+ community, we hope you have a brilliant month celebrating your unique self and all the amazing gifts you bring to the world. You’re important and you matter. Whichever way you mark the occasion, we hope it’s fun and fabulous.
We also wanted to take a moment to appreciate our diverse team and, in particular, our incredible LGBTQIA+ colleagues. We love the different perspectives and variety of lived experiences that these team members bring to the workplace – Cliniko is so much better and richer for having you on board. Thank you for being part of the company.
As ever, Cliniko stands proudly behind the LGBTQIA+ community. We honour LGBTQIA+ history and commemorate the victories that have been won, but also recognise that there are ongoing struggles to fight discrimination and bigotry.
For our part, we strive to make Cliniko as inclusive as possible. In 2018 we updated how sex and gender could be recorded in Cliniko and offered a pronouns field in order to be more gender affirming. This year we modified those options (on the advice of Intersex Human Rights Australia) to keep up to date with the most current terminology. Cliniko will always continue to adapt and make changes where necessary to provide you with the tools you need to run safe and respectful practice.
As one way of showing our solidarity and support for LGBTQIA+ rights, we’re making a $AUD 2,000 donation to Human Dignity Trust (we also donated $AUD 10,000 to them in 2021). While we love Pride Month, we also know that it’s essential to support the LGBTIQA+ community all year round and Human Dignity Trust are doing great work to make sure that happens.
Okay, that’s enough from us – back to the party!

We all want to create respectful and safe environments in our work. But how active are we in this process, and do we assume others think of us as an inclusive person without us actually doing anything to show it?
Cliniko believes it’s essential to support the LGBTIQA+ community all year round. In this article, Andy Haycroft shares exactly why it's so important to make your healthcare practice a safe space for everyone who visits – patients and staff included.
